Technology Program

Participating 6th Graders will meet twice a month after-school during the months from October through May. Each session is designed where students learn about electronic components and how they operate. Afterwards, students get to assemble circuits and test them.

The program is designed to teach 6th Graders basic electronics. This includes component identification, reading schematics, how to handle electronic components safely, industry terminology, circuit assembly, testing, troubleshooting, flowcharts, and computer programming using Arduino-based circuit boards and the Arduino programming language.

This program has STEM characteristics:

Science: electronics is a science that deals with the uses and effects of electrons.

Technology: the practical application of knowledge, especially in a particular area of study, where the use of science in industry, engineering, etc., is used to invent items or to solve problems.

Engineering: the application of science and mathematics to develop and create products which are useful to people.

Mathematics: the application of mathematics during engineering design challenges can help students develop critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills.
